- Listing of reputable pug breeders
Instructions
Call a pug breeder in your part of the country and ask if he or she is expecting a litter. If the breeder does not have a litter coming, he or she probably will know another breeder who is. Finding a breeder with puppies is just one part of the process. You and the breeder also must "click." The breeder wants to be certain that you are the right kind of person and have the right kind of home environment for the puppy. You should feel confident that after you purchase the puppy, the breeder will be willing to offer advice regarding any difficulties that may arise in areas such as crate training or housebreaking.
Visit the breeder's facility. Examine where the dogs sleep, what they are fed and how they are cared for. To get a sense of the puppies' temperament, ask to spend time with the mother. It is possible that you may meet the father, too, unless he belongs to another breeder. Ask as many questions as you like but in particular inquire about the health of the litter and if these puppies may inherit any genetic conditions.
Play with the puppies to see which one appeals to you most. Once you have made your selection, ask for a sales contract from the breeder that stipulates the price and gives you the right to take the puppy to the veterinarian of your choice for an examination. The contract should state that if your vet finds any health problems, you may return the puppy to the breeder for a full refund.
