Switch to better dog food. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the best foods are those that bear the Association of American Feed Control Officials label. Other qualities to seek include a brand name, meat as the first listed ingredient, and low or nonexistent levels of ash, corn, cornmeal, wheat and preservatives. Foods should also contain omega fatty acids.
Cut the scraps. Your dog may love people food, but his digestive tract does not. Table scraps increase gas, as do foods containing lactose.
Keep your dog's meal times consistent and calm. Feed your dog at the same time every day. Do not allow children or other dogs to approach; the dog may feel threatened and inclined either to snap or to eat too fast. Eating too fast promotes the swallowing of air, which promotes gas.
See the vet when necessary. Persistent flatulence after these improvements may be a sign that your dog is ill or intolerant of certain food, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
How to Stop Dogs From Having Gas
When a dog has a flatulence problem, everybody knows it. Dogs, just like humans, have digestive tracts that respond poorly to certain foods and behaviors. All breeds are susceptible to having bad gas, but most dogs can avoid the embarrassing situation with a few adjustments to diet and environment.
