How to Change the Battery on an Invisible Fence

Invisible Fence is the original developer of "electronic fences" for home use. These fences are not without criticism; PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), as well as other animal rights groups, strongly oppose the systems. Invisible fences send an electronic shock to your dog's collar when they attempt to cross a boundary. If you own an Invisible Fence system, you'll need to replace the battery every three to six months. The battery, called a power cap, consists of a casing with an internal battery. The power cap must be purchased directly from Invisible Fence or from your nearest Invisible Fence dealer.

Instructions

    • 1

Escort your dog to a safe location. You'll need to remove the transmitter collar; without the collar on, the fence will not keep him from leaving the yard.

    • 2

Remove the pack from the transmitter collar. Insert a coin into the power cap base; turn the coin counterclockwise to release the power cap from the transmitter collar.

    • 3

Line up the replacement power cap tabs with the notches inside the power cap compartment. Insert the power cap, and turn it clockwise with your hand. Insert the coin and use it to turn the power cap until the marks are lined up.

Check the indicator light on the pack; the light should be green, signaling good battery strength. Reattach the pack to the transmitter collar and put it back on your dog.
