Things You'll Need
- 36-inch wide welded wire fence
- Wire cutters
- Bailing wire (if existing fence is chain-link)
- Measuring tape
- Staple gun and staples (if existing fence is wood)
Instructions
Measure your fence dimensions using the measuring tape. Use these dimensions to purchase your welded wire fence. The welded wire you purchase should be at least the same length as the perimeter measurements of your fence.
Purchase connections for the fence. If you have a wooden fence, purchase two staples for every 3 feet of project. If you have a chain-link fence purchase, buy 1 foot of bailing wire for every foot of your project.
Use the wire cutters to cut the fence in approximately 8-foot lengths. This length of the fence is easy to work with.
Use the wire cutters to cut the bailing wire in 6-inch lengths if your fence is chain link. If you have a wood fence, load staples into your staple gun.
Attach the welded wire to the existing fence except for gate openings. Overlap the welded wire to the existing fence by 8 to 10 inches. Use the cut bailing wire to bind the welded wire to the existing chain-link fence. Use the staple gun to bind the welded wire to the top of a wooden fence. Continue this until the entire fence has welded wire attached.
Attached the welded wire to gate openings. Cut the welded wire to the width of each gate. Using the same method as above, attach the welded wire to each gate. The wire on the gate must touch the wire on the adjacent fence when the gate is closed.
