How to Get the Dog Smell Out of a Basement

A family pet can bring immeasurable joy and love into your house. Unfortunately, often times a pet will bring with it a new set of odors which can prove especially difficult to remove from your house. While most scents left behind by a dog can be taken care of with a simple vacuuming and deodorizing spray, odors from accidents can prove difficult to remove if not properly treated.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a blacklight in a darkened room to identify dried urine spots which may not be visible to the naked eye. The blacklight will cause the urine to glow slightly.

    • 2

Create a mixture of three parts water and one part vinegar, and apply it to the spot.

    • 3

Blot up the mixture with the rag.

    • 4

Sprinkle baking soda over the spot.

    • 5

Create a mixture of the hydrogen peroxide and dish detergent.

    • 6

Apply the mixture to the spot and brush it in vigorously.

    • 7

Vacuum over the spot once dry.

    • 8

Repeat until the spot no longer smells, and repeat for all spots in your basement.
