Puppy Birthday Party Ideas

If your child loves puppies, having a puppy-themed birthday party is usually a good idea. With the various puppy-themed toys and decorations available at many mass merchants, the party should come together easily, even if you have to throw it together at the last minute. A puppy-themed party works best outside, but it is possible to move the festivities indoors, if necessary.
  1. Invitations

    • In lieu of traditional party invitations, you can invite guests to your child's birthday party using Frisbees, a toy that dogs love. On the Frisbee, use a permanent marker to write out the actual invitation. Title it something puppy-related, such as "You are invited to a doggone good time." You can use tennis balls or plastic bones instead of the Frisbees. If you are hosting the party during the warm summer months, make a note on the invitation for each child to bring an extra set of clothes if you plan on any water-based activities. Make each child a bone- or paw-shaped name tag for the party and include it with the invitation. Write a note that says the name tag should be placed on the child's shirt right under the chin, which is the same position as a dog's tag would fall on the collar.

    Decorations

    • Use streamers and other decorations that have bones or paw prints on them. Find pictures of cute puppies and use them as place markers or signs around the party. A photo of a fire hydrant could mark the bathroom and a dog bowl can be used for the refreshment table. Make a dog house out of an appliance box (check with rent-to-own furniture stores or appliance stores for boxes) for guests to place the presents for the birthday child in. To do this, paint the box red (or your child's favorite color). Lay the box on its side and trace a door hole. Remember that most dog house doors are rounded at the top. Cut off the side of the box that touches the ground. Cut it in half long-ways. Use these two sections to make the "roof" of the dog house by taping, gluing or stapling one edge of each section to the top side of the box. Fold the two pieces up until they touch to form the roof. Fasten them together. Paint a name plate over the front door for your child.

    Games

    • You can set up sprinklers in the yard for the children to play in just like puppies would do. If you can find plastic fire hydrants, set them up as an obstacle course for the children. You can add tunnels to the obstacle course by using more appliance boxes. If your child enjoys arts and crafts, provide paper plates for the children to decorate as puppies. Each child needs two plates. One plate serves as the puppy's face. The other is cut in half to make the ears. Markers, colors, construction paper, glitter, glue, pipe cleaners and sequins are used as decorations for the project.
