Internet
-
There is a plethora of websites for finding a good home for a dog. Many sites are dedicated to rescue groups only, but others have classifieds that can be used to place an ad for the dog you have for adoption (see Resources).
Rescue Group or Shelter
-
Visit or call some local animal shelters and rescue groups. They may be able to take the dog in and place it in a good home. They may also be able to direct you to a good place to try, or offer to place the dog on their website or adoptable pet list.
Pet Store
-
Pet stores often have bulletin boards for pet-related advertisements. Include a good description of the dog and a picture. Be sure to include a telephone number or email address so you may be contacted if someone is interested.
Pet Events
-
Many communities hold pet events and expos. Take the dog there and network with others. You may also consider setting up a table or booth if you have more than one dog up for adoption.
Newspaper
-
Call your local newspaper and inquire about placing a photo ad of the dog that is up for adoption. While newspapers are less common now than they were 20 years ago, many people still read or browse them. One ad may reach hundreds or even thousands of people.
