Urine Removal
-
If your pet used the carpet to do its business, soak up any excess urine with paper towels. Wet the area, if it is color safe, with a solution of half water and half white vinegar, allowing it to penetrate the fibers; leave it until almost dry. Pour baking soda over the spot, then work in a solution of ¼ cup hydrogen peroxide (3 percent) mixed with 1 tsp. of dishwashing liquid; allow it to dry, then vacuum.
Oestrus Odor
-
To mask the oestrus odor of a female dog in season, who is not due to be bred, purchase liquid chlorophyll from a health-food store. According to SportDogTraining.com, liquid chlorophyll also soothes the dog's body. Give your dog 2 cap-fulls a day. Liquid chlorophyll is also available in tablet form.
Wet Dog Smell
-
To freshen the coat of a dog that has come in from the rain, towel dry, then rub the coat gently with a laundry dryer sheet.
Skunk Odor
-
If the family dog has encountered an angry skunk, the old home remedy of tomato juice will mask the odor for a while, but it will not neutralize it. To remove the strong sulfur odor in the dog's coat, mix 1 cup of vinegar, 1 pt. of hydrogen peroxide (3 percent) and 1 cup of dishwashing liquid, apply to the coat and work into a lather, massaging the coat for ten minutes; rinse and repeat until the odor is almost gone, then rinse with ½ cup vinegar and ½ cup water.
Pet Bedding Smells
-
To freshen pet bedding, sprinkle with baking soda, let it set for 15 minutes, then dust out or vacuum.

Home Remedies for Pet Odor Elimination
Anyone who has a pet suffers the consequences occasionally. Accidents happen, especially when potty training or housebreaking the animal. Dogs who stay outside sometimes smell as if they have rolled in some kind of exquisitely foul-smelling substance, and pets are sometimes the victims of other smelly wildlife.
