How to Get Dog Walker Insurance

When starting up a dog walking business it is recommended you get insurance. Dog owners tend to have more confidence in a dog walker if the person has insurance. The insurance not only covers any problems that may occur during the time the dog is being walked, but also while the dog is in your own home under your care. Getting insurance for walking dogs is a relatively easy process with just a few steps.

Instructions

Join an organization that provides insurance. There are dog-walking insurance opportunities through several pet sitting companies such as Pet Sitters Associates and National Association of Professional Pet Sitters. They will each require you to become a member of their organization, however, to receive insurance. The fee to join NAPPS starts at $200 and up. PSA has a free membership.

Determine what kind of dog-walker insurance you will need. Decide if you only want liability, which will only cover the area the dog is walked, or full coverage that will include everything from care to control within the dog owner's home to the outside area the dog is walked. More coverage will require more money.

Decide if you will hire employees. If you decide to have one or more employees, you will need to additional insurance to cover them.

    • 4

Fill out the application for the insurance. Once you decide which company you will use, fill out an application either online or in person.

    • 5

Review details of the policy. The paperwork regarding your insurance will be sent by mail if you fill out the application online. Read through the information and know what your policy covers.
