Obey the leash law in your village, town city, county or state. Following the rules is not hard to do and will prevent the dog from being able to run after a car.
Don’t use electric fences as the main ingredient to keeping your best friend safe. Dogs can get around them, and they may get hurt if they’re not very good at it.
Use a pet controlling “invisible” fence or a regular fence the dog can’t dig under or around to keep them in their yard. Or use a line the dog can move along on a tether. Either of these will give the dog some movement in the yard and some variety.
Monitor the whereabouts of your dog, especially when you are outside. This is good for pet safety. Always keep an eye on your pet to make sure the he is within 10 feet of you at all times.
Walk your dog daily. This not only gets you and your dog some exercise, it can act as a reward to the dog for keeping safe and keeping with you.
