How to Make a Belly Band for Dogs

Your male dog is having a wonderful time lifting his leg and peeing all over your furniture. It's driving you crazy. You don't want to get rid of him, but you don't want to buy any special devices to stop him either. You can make a belly band. A belly band is like a diaper for a male dog. It's a helpful tool when you're having trouble with your male dog marking in the house and ruining the furniture. You can buy a belly band pre-made at most pet stores or online, but it's just as easy to make one yourself. If you can sew, you can make a really sassy belly band.

Instructions

    • 1

Have your dog stand up. Measure around his stomach, starting from his back, underneath and back up to his back again. Tape should be snug to his body.

    • 2

Cut a strip of fabric to the measured length. The width should be about 20 inches.

    • 3

Fold your long strip in half lengthwise, with the print sides of the fabric facing each other. The band should be about 10 inches wide, which is average for a medium-sized dog. You can make your smaller or larger depending on the size of the dog.

    • 4

Sew the sides together, leaving one end open. Turn fabric inside out. Sew bottom edge.

    • 5

Place the belly band around your dog so you can pin the velcro strips where they will create a snug fit for your dog. Sew the velcro strips onto the ends in that pinned position. Remove pins. Add a sanitary napkin across the center of the belly band.
