Keep your eyes and ears open to stories of dogs that need new homes. Often the best way to rescue a Havanese is to hear about one in danger and then rescue it. Therefore, be prepared to rescue one at any time.
Contact Havanese Rescue Inc., where you can learn more about rescuing puppies and Havanese dogs (see Resources below). Check their website frequently for updates.
Sign up for the mailing list at Havanese Rescue Inc. This list will let you know of any Havanese dogs that need to be rescued in your area.
Join dog rescue boards or forums, which list puppies and dogs that need to be rescued. Check back each day to see if there are any Havanese that need to be rescued.
Offer to bring an available dog to your home when you find one that needs to be rescued. Often you must pay a fee, but remember that it is worth it if you can give the dog a better life.
Take your Havanese to a vet as soon as you bring him home. Don't let the dog associate with any of your other animals until he has been checked over by a vet and had all of necessary shots.
Find someone who is willing to adopt the dog if you cannot give the rescued dog a good home on your own. Do this process carefully so that you know the dog will go to a good home. Screen any potential new homes to make sure they are good environments.
How to Rescue a Havanese
Havanese dogs are beautiful and cute. However, like all dogs, Havanese can sometimes be abandoned or found in unsuitable homes. Some rescue societies are devoted to the Havanese breed. By rescuing an abandoned or mistreated Havanese, you help to promote the breed and change the life of one or more lucky dogs.
