How to Make an Emergency Dog Muzzle

Even a gentle and loving dog can snarl and bite when they're threatened or in pain. A traumatized dog can cause potentially serious injury with its strong jaws and teeth. In an emergency situation, it is important to muzzle the dog quickly, before she can bite you, other people or other dogs.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a large loop by tying a loose knot in the center of a leash or length of rope or fabric.

    • 2

Hold the ends up, one end in each hand. Stand behind your dog and quickly slip the loop over his muzzle and lower jaw, just behind his nose. Fasten it securely with a loose half knot before he can shake it off or push it off with his paw. The half knot should be on top of the dog's snout.

    • 3

Bring the two ends down under the dog's chin and behind her ears, while keeping the loop tight against her snout. Cross the ends under her snout and bring them back behind her head.

    • 4

Tie the ends together snugly behind the ears using a bow tie so that it can be quickly removed.
