Instructions
Dog Urine on a Carpeted Surface
Blot as much of the wetness as possible with paper towels. Do not rub the stain. Doing so will spread the liquid to other parts of the carpet and can damage its fibers, too. To blot the surface well, put heavy weight on the towel while blotting and leave it for a long time.
Clean the spot with water to dilute the urine left in the carpet. Pour seven to eight ounces of water on the spot and blot it with paper towels till the towel shows no sign of yellow.
Use a carpet cleaner and brush to clean the surface now. Spray the cleaner on the surface and scrub with the brush.
Use an enzymatic cleaner or neutralizer to wipe off the stain. Follow the instructions mentioned on the cleaner. Enzymatic cleaners have bacteria that digest any pet mess left in the carpet.
Be patient while blotting. It might take as many as six hours to blot the surface well, but it is very important to extract moisture well. Any moisture left in the carpet may lead to mildew and spoil your carpet.
Use a vacuum cleaner to soak up any remaining wetness. It can also speed up drying.
Check if the carpet still has any stains still left. If you spot any, use a stain remover that is formulated for pet stains. Such products are easily available in the market.
Remember you must use the cleaner before using the stain remover.
Deodorize the spot after cleaning. Cover the spot with baking soda and then vacuum it after two hours. It is important to kill the smell as pets might look for that same spot next time.
Spot reappeared after some days? Repeat the cleaning procedure as required.
Dog Urine on Wooden Surface
Blot the liquid with paper towels. Do not rub the stain. Doing so will spread the liquid to other parts of the floor. To blot the surface well, put heavy weight on the towel while blotting and leave it for some time.
Use an oil based soap cleaner to clean the surface. Follow the instructions on the cleaner to clean the spot. Use a product that is formulated for pets. Ensure that the spot is not visible after you have cleaned it.
Dry the area with paper towels. Be patient while blotting. It takes time but it is necessary to soak all the moisture.
Use an enzyme inhibitor for cleaning the surface. Make sure you use a product specially formulated for wooden floors. Apply the liquid on a rag and rub it on the floor.
Apply varnish on the spot. It will deodorize the floor and restore the color lost while cleaning. Note that the enzyme inhibitor will kill most of the odor on wooden floors, but you need to varnish as animals have a stronger sense of smell than humans.
