Are huskies the only dogs that can be sled dogs?
Huskies are a well-known and popular breed of sled dog, however, they are certainly not the only dogs to fill this role. While their endurance, strength, and ability to withstand extremely cold temperatures do indeed make them ideally suited for the job, there are plenty of other equally-well equipped canines. Other commonly utilized sled dog breeds include Malamutes, Samoyeds, and Greenland Dogs, as well as breeds more local to different areas, like the Chinook in America. Each possesses specific advantages and qualities that can prove very beneficial when pulling a sled in challenging snowy climates. The breed best suited for the job often boils down to the breed’s personality traits, healthiness, and suitability for cold environments.
