When sea otters are pups do they stay with their mom?
Sea otters are born with their eyes open, able to swim, and covered with dense fur. Despite this, they are almost entirely dependent on their mothers during the first few months of their lives. Mothers rarely, if ever, leave their pups unattended, and carry them ventrally for the first six weeks of life. Pups are weaned by 6–7 months, and may stay with their mothers for up to 2 years. Although they are capable of hunting on their own at this point, they may continue to forage together before eventually venturing out on their own.
