How do dogs spit?

Dogs do not actually spit the way humans do, where saliva is forcefully projected from the mouth. Instead, when a dog is attempting to remove something from its mouth or is experiencing nausea, it regurgitates by bringing up contents from its stomach into its esophagus and expels it through its mouth. They may also drool or shake their head. This action of spitting out or ejecting foreign material is more accurately known as "regurgitation" in dogs. True salivation or controlled projection of saliva as a form of "spitting" is not a typical canine behavior.
