What if a degu bites you?

Degus are small rodents native to Chile. Although they are generally good-natured and gentle animals, they can bite if they feel threatened or stressed. If a degu bites you, the first thing you should do is wash the wound with soap and water. This will help to remove any bacteria that may have been introduced by the bite. You should then apply a bandage to the wound to help stop the bleeding. If the bite is severe, you may need to seek medical attention.

In addition to washing the wound and applying a bandage, there are a few other things you can do to help treat a degu bite. First, you should avoid touching or scratching the wound. This could introduce bacteria into the wound and lead to infection. Second, you should keep the wound elevated to help reduce swelling. Finally, you should take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, to help relieve any pain or inflammation.

If you experience any of the following symptoms after being bitten by a degu, you should seek medical attention immediately:

- Increased pain or swelling

- Redness or drainage from the wound

- Fever

- Chills

- Nausea

- Vomiting

- Difficulty breathing

These symptoms could be a sign of infection or other complications that require medical treatment.
