How to Make a Calming Spray for Dogs

Dogs can become stressed for many different reasons; some reasons might be sudden loud or unfamiliar noises, separation anxiety or unfamiliar guests in the home. Occasionally, your dog may respond to stress by barking incessantly, chewing obsessively on objects or acting aggressively. Help your dog reduce anxiety and aggression by making a simple homemade lavender oil spray. Lavender oil is a pleasant fragrance with healing properties that will help calm and relax your dog.

  • 4 drops of lavender oil
  • Spray bottle
  • 4 oz. of distilled water

      Purchase some lavender oil from your local health food store. Look for 100 percent pure lavender oil for best results.

      Fill a clean spray bottle with 4 oz. of distilled water. Add 4 drops of lavender oil to the bottle and shake well.

      Mist your dog lightly about 6 inches from his hair keeping away from his eyes and face. Gently rub the lavender spray into your dog̵7;s coat with your hands to evenly distribute the calming oils.

      Reapply the lavender oil spray to your dog in stressful situations, or at least once a week to reduce anxiety. Store any unused oil spray in a cool dry place until the next use.
