Use a laser light to give your puppy a romp. Puppies and adult dogs will chase the moving dot of light as if it is alive. Let the puppy get close to catching it and then point the light in a new direction. This will quickly tire out the puppy if you play the light over a large space.
Place a favorite treat inside a box and close it. Leave a small hole to let the puppy smell the treat. They are a lot like children and will spend quite some time playing in and with the box after the treat is gone. Let the puppy destroy the box, but be prepared for a mess.
Toss a tennis ball. The universal dog toy, the ball, is always effective in amusing puppies and adult dogs. Teach the dog to go get the ball and return it to you in exchange for a treat. This little game is actually the process for learning to fetch. It is also a game you can perform from your chair.
Introduce your puppy to squeaky toys. The sound alone will keep the puppy occupied with the chew toy. Find puppy teething toys at your local pet store to entertain the puppy while soothing some of the teething symptoms.
How to Amuse a Puppy
Puppies are not simply small dogs. They are like human children, easily bored, curious and able to learn at a much faster rate than adults. Keeping a puppy amused is often a chore in itself if there aren't other dogs around to play with. However, owners shouldn't give up their lives to entertaining the dog all day. There are ways to amuse the puppy without devoting your entire day to the furry addition to the family.
