How to Make Your Own Pet ID

If you don't have a steady enough hand or the courage to engrave a prefabricated pet tag template, you can still make an ID tag for your best friend that has your personal touch. A hand-stitched wraparound pet ID tag made from a piece of ribbon scrap is bound not to fall off, no matter how rough your dog or cat likes to play or how hard he or she tries to pull it off.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the ribbon to a length of 4 inches. Place it on your work surface so that the 4-inch side faces you.

    • 2

Write your pet's name and contact phone number on the ribbon's 1-inch center section. Plain, large letters and numbers work best.

    • 3

Thread your embroidery needle. Stitch the penciled out name and phone number onto the ribbon with a straight stitch.

    • 4

Fold the ends 1/4 inch over. Crease them with your iron. Stitch the seams on your sewing machine.

    • 5

Take the collar off your pet. Wrap the ID tag around the collar. Hand-stitch the sides together.
