How to Get Dog Pee Out of a Leather Jacket

If you own a dog, you know that accidents happen. And sometimes they happen right on your leather jacket. If your dog urinates on your leather jacket, it is important to remove the pee as quickly as you can. You don't want the urine to saturate the leather and inner lining, thereby rendering your jacket unwearable. Before you go spraying your heavy duty pet spot remover onto the leather, take a step back to remember that cleaning leather is not the same as cleaning your carpet. A milder cleaning agent is necessary to preserve the quality of the leather.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak up the urine with a dry rag. If your dog peed directly onto the leather, and you catch it in time, you will notice a small puddle of the pee on the surface of the leather.

    • 2

Mix a mild soap solution with water in a plastic bucket. Use 2 cups water and 1 cup mild liquid soap or mild detergent. Dip your sponge into the solution and wring it out to remove excess liquid.

    • 3

Apply the sponge to the leather jacket. Wash the area where the urine was in a circular motion. Allow the sponge to get sudsy on the leather.

    • 4

Wash the entire leather jacket this way. Keep in mind that the spot where you are washing the leather will likely dry in a lighter or darker color than the rest of the jacket. To keep your jacket all the same color, wash the entire jacket instead of just one spot.

    • 5

Rinse the jacket off with a clean rag wet with fresh water. Do not put your leather jacket underneath the faucet of your sink or bathtub or let the leather jacket soak in a soapy or clean-water bath.

    • 6

Hang the jacket up in your shower on a hanger to dry. Inspect the spot the next day to see if the spot is noticeable and if it smells.
