Instructions
Wash 1 yard of fabric to preshrink it. Dry the fabric and press it with an iron to remove all wrinkles. Lay the fabric, wrong side up, on a work surface.
Measure out a square on the fabric using a fabric measuring tape. Measure a 14-inch square for a small-sized dog, an 18-inch square for a medium dog and a 22-inch square for a large dog. Measure around your dog's neck with the fabric measuring tape and add 6 inches to the measurement to find the exact size. Mark the measurements onto the fabric using a fabric pencil.
Cut out the fabric square using a pair of scissors. Fold the square in half diagonally to create a triangle shape. Ensure that the fabric is folded with the right sides together. Match up the edges so they are even and then pin them together with straight pins.
Thread a sewing machine with thread that matches the color of the fabric. Sew a 1/2-inch seam around the two open edges of the triangle, removing the pins as you come to them. Leave a 2-inch to 3-inch space open along one of the sides. Clip any loose threads.
Turn the neck scarf right side out by pull the fabric through the 2- to 3-inch opening. Press the seams of the scarf flat using an iron. Turn the open edges inward, 1/2 of an inch. Thread a sewing needle with thread and use it to sew the opening closed. Top stitch around the three edges of the scarf to secure the edges.
