How to Make a Dog Canopy

Many pet owners have set aside a special area in their yards for their dogs, called a "run." In most parts of the United States, the climate is fine for leaving your dog out in the run most of the day. However, during the summer, when days get hot, and when it's raining, dogs need some shelter. If you don't have a house for your dog in the run, you can set up a canopy over part of it.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide how much of the run you want to cover. Use the tape measure to figure out the square footage and dimensions.

    • 2

Use the scissors to cut enough canvas to cover the area, with an extra 2 feet wider and longer.

    • 3

Cut the flexible rods with the scissors so that they are just as long as the canvas. Put the canvas on the ground, bottom side up. Lay the rods two inches from the top and bottom, but parallel with each other.

    • 4

Cover the area between the canvas edges and the rods with craft clue. Roll the edges so that they cover the rod, and apply pressure until the glue takes hold. Repeat this with the other rod. Put rocks on the canvas to hold it in place while the glue finishes drying. Allow 20 to 30 minutes for drying.

Measure a half-inch inside the rods at each of the four corners, and cut a small hole with the scissors into the canvas -- just large enough to thread the cord through. Measure the height of the kennel and add 2 feet to the answer. This will be the length of your pieces of cord. A 4-foot high kennel would need four cords that are each 6 feet long. Cut those with the scissors.

Run the cords through the holes and tie them off with a knot that is bigger than the hole. Set the canvas across the run. Connect each cord with the run fence.
