How to Hunt With Weimaraners

Weimaraners are amenable to hunting because these fast dogs are bred to hunt all day and willing to please their owners. These dogs typically weigh between 75 and 90 pounds, with females generally not exceeding 80 pounds. Both sexes, however, are well conditioned and defined, which make them great hunting dogs. Because of their rambunctious temperament and activity levels, they require specialized treatment to make them successful as hunting dogs.

      Take advantage of their slow and precise methodological hunting on foot. Weimaraners tend to require a shorter working range in order to locate game.

      Take your Weimaraners on long duration hunts. Long hunts work well with their endurance, physical agility and explosive energy. These dogs also don't tire easily. Weimaraners can hunt for up to six hours or more.

      Use your Weimaraner for tracking while hunting. These dogs have a keen sense of smell and can help locate wounded game.

      Take your Weimaraner hunting for waterfowl and upland birds, including ducks, geese, quail and wild turkey. Weimaraners are natural swimmers, so waterfowl are excellent game for them to hunt, but they also have point and retrieve instincts for hunting upland birds.
