Things You'll Need
- Cable or chain, any length
- U-bolt
- Rubber mallet
Instructions
Choose the material you want to use for your tie-out. You can use a cable, chain or rope. You will need something that will be strong enough for your dog, but also will not cause injury if accidentally wrapped around your dog's leg.
Determine the length and placement of your tie-out. Depending on how much available space you have in your backyard, decide how much run you want to give your dog. Keep in mind, your dog will be able to move around the entire circumference of the tie-out, so make sure the area is free from any hazards, such as holes, lawn equipment, brush or anything else the dog may fall into or get tangled up in.
Hammer the U-bolt into the ground using the rubber mallet. You will want the U-bolt be in the center of the area that the dog will be kept. Make sure it is deep enough that it will not come out of the ground no matter how hard your dog pulls.
Attach one end of the chain to the U-bolt. If the chain does not have an open clasp, insert the U-bolt through a link at the end of the chain before hammering it into the ground.
Fasten your dog to the other end.
