Instructions
Feed your dog after the family has eaten, as it knows that the alpha dogs eat first and the subordinates eat second. Make your dog sit and wait quietly before you give it food or affection.
Step out of the house before your dog when going on a walk. Walk confidently with your back straight and shoulders back. Position yourself slightly in front of your dog when walking to ensure that your dog is following you rather than leading you. Keep the leash relaxed but correct the dog with a quick sideways tug if it begins to pull or walk in front of you. Make your dog sit and wait until all other family members have entered the house after a walk or outing.
Do not allow the dog to sleep on your bed or jump up on the furniture, as these are high places that should be reserved for the pack leader.
Do not tolerate growling, snapping or guarding behavior from your dog. Stand your ground with your head up and your back straight until your dog stops the behavior and backs away. If you are holding a small dog and it growls or snaps at people who approach, correct this immediately by saying "no" in a firm voice and placing the dog on the floor.
How Do I Get My Dog to Be Submissive?
Get your dog to be submissive by showing it that you are the pack leader. No matter what size dog you have, it will benefit from this process as it will no longer feel the need to be dominant. A dominant dog can develop a number of behavioral problems, such as aggression, pulling on the leash and jumping up on guests. Showing your dog that you are the leader of the pack or family will also encourage the dog to trust and respect you, as well as give you more control over your pet.
