Great Dane Club of America
-
The preeminent Great Dane group in the United States, the Great Dane Club of America engages dog owners, the public and private interest groups by educating them on the breed. The club also hosts and supports local and national dog shows, encourages responsible breeding practices, furthers the health of the breed and helps establish local Great Dane clubs throughout the states. If you own a Great Dane and are a member in good standing with the AKC, you can join the club and access its member benefits. The public can also access the club's website at gdca.org, which offers breed information and resources.
Breeders
-
Responsible breeders make it their mission to produce the most healthy Great Dane lines possible. Physical, mental and personality health are priorities, and the best Great Dane breeders will have ample knowledge and passion about working with their breed. Breeders sometimes offer services in addition to breeding, such as training, showing and resourcing places for you to take your Great Dane if there are problems or concerns with your dog. Find a reputable breeder through a certification group, such as the AKC, or through Great Dane interest groups, such as the Great Dane Club of America.
Great Dane Rescue Groups
-
Each region or state in the U.S. has at least one Great Dane rescue group, dedicated to keeping purebred Great Danes out of animal shelters and abusive homes. The groups take on dogs when a family can no longer keep their pet, or when animal control groups need to place the dogs. Volunteers foster unwanted Great Danes until a new home can be found for them. The fostering period includes training and socialization, as needed, so that the dog is as home-ready as possible. Rescue groups can also provide some medical services to Great Danes, including spaying and neutering. Great Dane lovers can apply to volunteer with their local rescue group, or to adopt a home-ready dog for their family.
Meetup Groups
-
Great Dane meetup groups are formed with the intent of giving Great Dane owners and dogs the opportunity to gather for support and socialization. Give your dog the chance to play with other dogs while you share your experiences and resources with other owners in your area. Find meetup groups through your breeder, postings at local dog parks or through local Great Dane clubs.
