How to Remove Dog Urine Odors From Furniture

Although dogs may have earned the title of "Man's Best Friend," even the most well-behaved canines can experience an accident from time to time. Dog urine, if left uncleaned, can cause stains and unpleasant odors. If your dog has urinated on the furniture, you can remove the odors and stains with a few household ingredients.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cushion covers, blankets or any other upholstery covers, and throw them into a washer. To neutralize the dog urine odor, add 1 cup of vinegar and 1/4 cup of baking soda with the laundry detergent before washing. If your covers are not machine washable, wash and dry them as instructed.

    • 2

Blot and dab the residue from the spot your dog urinated on the furniture. Use a paper towel or other absorbent material, and apply pressure on the urinated area to effectively soak the urine from the furniture.

    • 3

Disinfect the urine area with carpet cleaning solution, which can be obtained from your local home improvement store, pharmacy or grocery stores. Run the cleaning solution over the infected area, and dab the remaining solution out with a paper towel after five to ten minutes.

    • 4

Apply a think layer of baking soda over the stained area.

    • 5

Pour 1 cup of club soda into a spray bottle and spray the stained area. Put on a pair of gloves and slowly mix the baking soda and club soda together to form a thick paste, which will bind itself to the stain particles, removing them completely.

    • 6

Allow the thick paste to dry for two to three hours, which should remove the stain. Once the paste has completely dried, use your vacuum cleaner to remove the paste.
