How to Keep Your Poodle Calm

The poodle is a very intelligent breed of dog; one that's owned and loved by many. A poodle tends to have a calm disposition but, like any other dog, it can develop certain behavioral issues that must be addressed to keep it safe and healthy. A poodle can become easily excited, and must be calmed to prevent injury or other problems (damaged furniture, for example). Although an excited poodle may look adorable, its owner needs to work with it to calm it down.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the poodle for a walk. Some dogs become overexcited around the house because they're not getting enough exercise each day. Physical activity gives the poodle an outlet for its pent-up energy and keeps it healthy.

    • 2

Kneel next to your dog when it becomes excited or scared and speak to it softly in a reassuring voice. Let the poodle see that you're calm, and it will realize that there's nothing to be excited about.

    • 3

Give your dog something to do if it's acting out from boredom. An energetic dog may calm down when given a toy to play with or something to chew on.

    • 4

Distract the poodle from the source of excitement. Call the dog away, or offer it a treat or toy to divert attention to something else.
