How to Use Vinegar to Clean a Dog Collar

Love, loyalty and companionship are the positive aspects of owning a dog. Unfortunately, with the positives come the negatives, including nose-wrinkling odors. A dog collar will quickly absorb these odors and remain for weeks after you have bathed the pooch. Fortunately, there is no need to purchase a new collar when you can use inexpensive items commonly found in pantries to remove the smell and freshen the dog collar.

Things You'll Need

Fill a sink with warm water and add several drops of liquid dish soap. Pour 1 cup of white vinegar into the water and swish the contents with your hand.

Submerge the dog collar in the sink. Gently scrub both sides of the collar clean with an old toothbrush.

Let the pet collar soak in the mixture for 10 to 15 minutes. The white vinegar will eliminate odors trapped in the fibers of the collar.
