Instructions
Add a drop of dish soap to an empty medicine dropper bottle and fill with hot water. Pull the tube out of the dropper top and discard the tube. Screw the top on the bottle and shake vigorously. Remove the top and rinse the dropper with copious amounts of hot water to remove residue. Invert the bottle on a clean towel to dry.
Protect your hand with a glove, and hold a needle between the tips of the pliers. Heat the tip of the needle over an open flame. Poke four evenly spaced holes in the top of the medicine dropper lid and the baby bottle lid with the hot needle. The medicine bottle is small enough to feed very young or toy-breed puppies, while the baby bottle is large enough to feed older puppies.
Weigh each puppy to determine how much to feed the puppy. Puppies need approximately 15 cc's of milk for every 3 oz. body weight, and divide the total amount of formula into six equal portions.
Combine 1/2 cup evaporated milk, 1 cup baby water, 1 tsp. corn oil, 2 egg yolks, 1 dropper of pediatric vitamins and 1 tbsp. plain yogurt in a small bowl. Mix well with a whisk; store in the refrigerator for up to seven days. Remove the milk replacement from the refrigerator and warm to room temperature before feeding.
Draw the appropriate amount of milk into the syringe and squeeze it into the bottle. Set the puppy on a stable surface and place the nipple under his nose. The puppy will smell the milk and root around for the nipple, latching on and sucking until the bottle is empty.
