Little White Bunny Costumes for Dogs

Sometimes a dog just needs to dress like a little white bunny. The occasion might be an Easter event, a spring festival or a Halloween costume. Pet costumes can cost as much, if not more, than costumes for children and are often worn only a few times. Save the expense and make your own costume that is custom-fitted to your dog.
  1. Bunny Ears Headpiece

    • Use a white satin sleep mask to create a headpiece for your dog. Use a printable bunny ear template (see Resources) to make the ears. Print, cut out and trace around the ear template onto white felt, construction paper or card stock. Fold up the lower 1/2 inch of the bottom of the ears to form a tab. Staple or glue (use fabric or white school glue) the ears to the sleep mask where your eyes would be located. Cut the elastic head strap so it forms two ties. Tie the strap beneath the dog's jaw. You can cut smaller pink felt or paper inner ear pieces to center and glue to the white ears if desired.

    Construction Paper and Cotton Balls

    • Create a simple white bunny costume for your dog from construction paper, white school glue and cotton balls. Use your favorite dog coat pattern (see Resources) or measure your dog from shoulder to shoulder over the back and cut a half circle according to the dog's measurements that has one flat edge from tissue paper to use as a pattern. Trace the pattern onto white construction paper and cut it out. Glue cotton balls onto the paper until the half circle is completely covered. Fit the paper costume over the dog's back with the flat edge of the half circle aligned directly behind the dog's upper back neck. Staple a white ribbon to each side, beneath the dog's torso. Staple a ribbon across the dog's front to each side of the flat edge of the half circle.

    Felt or Fleece

    • Felt and fleece fabric do not need to be hemmed because the fabric will not unravel or shred. You can cut felt or fleece with any sharp scissors and the cutting edge will not fray. Measure your dog from shoulder to shoulder over the dog's back. Use your favorite dog pattern or half circle template (see Resources) to cut a dog coat/half circle to fit the dog's measurements from white felt or fleece. Fit the half circle or dog coat onto the back of the dog aligning the flat edge of the half circle with the upper back of the dog's neck. Have someone hold the felt or fleece in position. Use a hole punch to punch a hole about 2 inches from the center edge on each side of the costume and on each side of the flat edge (near the dog's shoulders). Tie a white ribbon (cut to the dog's measurements) to the holes on the left side of the dog's costume. Stretch the ribbon beneath the dog and tie it through the right hole. Stretch the ribbon across the front of the dog and tie it to the right hole.

    Faux Fur

    • Use your favorite dog coat pattern to sew a dog coat from faux white rabbit fur. You will need to hem and sew the fur on a sewing machine to make sure the fabric doesn't shed. Faux rabbit fur can be expensive per yard so this is more cost-effective for a smaller dog. Check the fabric remnant section of your local fabric store before having faux fur cut from the bolt. If you find a large enough remnant, you will save some money.
