The Best Way to Fog Fleas

Fleas have a long and complex life cycle. They live in grass, sand and brush. Pets and humans carry the tiny creatures into the house. The fleas feed on humans and pets, drinking their blood. The pests lay eggs, which fall into the carpet and upholstery. The larva hatch and feed on dried skin flakes and tiny bits of organic material. The larva molt twice to develop into adult fleas, which attack warm-blooded creatures and repeat the life cycle. Just treating the animal or washing clothes will not rid a house of fleas. Foggers force flea toxins into every crevice of the home.

Instructions

    • 1
Be sure to vacuum carpets and upholstery thoroughly.

Vacuum the floor and upholstery of the home. Remove the vacuum cleaner bag or empty the canister outside to remove any flea eggs or larva.

    • 2

Open cupboards, doors and drawers. Expose as much of the house as possible to the fog. Remove animals from the home.

    • 3

Read the instructions on the fogger package. Different-sized bottles treat different-sized areas. Place multiple foggers in larger rooms to accommodate the room area.

    • 4

Press the button on top of the fogger and leave the area.

    • 5

Wait outside the home as long as instructed on your fogger.

    • 6

Wipe counters and sinks before using. Wash dishes and cooking utensils, even if they were stored in a closed cabinet. Vacuum floors and upholstery, remove the vacuum bag and discard.

    • 7

Repeat steps 1 through 6 in two weeks to kill any fleas emerging from eggs.
