Finding a Microchip in a Dog
Take the dog to a veterinarian or humane society to be scanned for a microchip.
Ask the shelter or owner when adopting if the dog has a microchip. If so, ask for the registered information so you can have it changed.
Protect your dog by having a microchip implanted. When you move or change phone numbers, it is important to keep the contact information updated.
How to Know If Your Dog Has a Microchip
Microchips are very tiny and it is impossible for you to tell if one has been implanted in your dog; furthermore, they are inactive, as they do not have a battery. As a result, they entail a special scanner to activate the chip, which are used at animal control agencies or shelters, humane societies, and veterinarian offices for identifying the owners of lost animals.
