How to Compost Animal Waste

Composting is the biological process of breaking down organic waste into an organic soil like substance. It provides a benefit to deficient soil. Animal waste compost is best used in the subsoil, and will take more time and care than typical food composting. It is an eco-friendly way to rid of waste and benefit your plants. You can have compost in 90 days, but in order to implement a safe animal waste composting system, you need to follow some safety guidelines.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the lid of the 32-gallon trashcan as a template for the diameter of your hole. Dig a hole that is the same depth as the height of the trashcan. Try to dig straight down.

    • 2

Cut out the bottom of your plastic can. Drill several half-inch holes on the sides of the can. Make sure that the holes on the side do not go within 12 inches of the top of the can. The holes will provide a necessary interaction with the soil that will promote composting.

    • 3

Cover the trashcan with the lid and drop it into the hole. Fill spaces around the outside of the trash can with soil. Make sure the trashcan lid is protruding from the ground.

    • 4

Put on gloves before handling animal waste. Remove the lid and drop the gravel into the can, along with some of the animal waste, a few handfuls of grass cuttings, and one cup of the liquid cesspool treatment. Cover this mixture with more grass cuttings and close the lid. Your animal composting system is now ready to use.
