Instructions

    • 1

Select the type of ribbon you plan to use. You can use any color or pattern, but be sure that you choose high-quality grosgrain ribbon that is approximately 1¼-inch to 1 ½-inch wide. You can get this type of ribbon from most craft stores.

    • 2

Measure the ribbon and cut off the amount that you will need to make the barrette (6 to 8 inches is usually a sufficient length).

    • 3

Fold the ribbon in half and squeeze it in the middle to make a distinct crease.

    • 4

Lay the ribbon down flat, unfold it, and use the hot glue gun to apply a line of glue right down the center of the crease.

    • 5

Fold both sides of the ribbon in toward the crease and adhere them to the center. You may need to apply more glue to ensure that the ribbon is completely attached on both sides.

    • 6

Apply another line of glue directly on top of the ends you just glued down, and fold the entire ribbon lengthwise. Hold it in the center and squeeze for a moment until the glue dries.

    • 7

Allow the bow to unfold naturally from the center, and then apply two more dots of glue just above and just below under the center point. Then, fold the top and bottom point of the bow toward the center and squeeze.

    • 8

Cut another small piece of ribbon (about ¼ inch to ½ inch wide) to wrap around the center of the bow. Trim any extra length if necessary and glue the ends together at the back of the bow.

    • 9

Adhere your Swarovski beads to the ribbon using dots of glue. You can place one right in the center for a traditional look, or place smaller beads around the bow in any design or pattern you wish.

    • 10

Apply hot glue along the entire length of the plain barrette and adhere it to the back of the bow.
