How to Get the Motor Out of a Drinkwell Pet Fountain

A Drinkwell Pet Fountain is an electric water bowl for your dog or cat. The motor in the water fountain continuously runs the water so it does not get stagnant. According to the manufacturer of the Drinkwell Pet Fountain, the constantly moving water attracts oxygen and appeals to the animal's natural instincts to drink from a fountain that moves similarly to the way water moves in nature. If you need to remove the motor from your Drinkwell Pet Fountain to clean it or replace it, it is relatively easy to do.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Drinkwell Pet Fountain from the electrical outlet in your home.

    • 2

Lift the reservoir housing unit from the bowl of the fountain.

    • 3

Unplug the inline plug that connects to the bottom portion of the unit where the bowl begins. The motor is the portion that connects directly to the water pump and the power cord to the unit.

    • 4

Remove or clean away any debris that has accumulated around the motor, the pump, the knob that controls the flow of water or intake plate.

    • 5

Remove the plug cord that runs from the motor to the unit. The cord starts underneath the arch of the unit, fits into the "cord channel" that runs along the back of the drinking fountain and snaps into the cord notch on the back bottom of the unit. Once you pull the cord out from these locations, you can completely remove the motor from the unit.

    • 6

Reattach the motor by pushing it back into the unit between the three-inch posts that are on the right side of the Drinkwell Pet Fountain unit.

    • 7

Push on the motor in a downward motion until the motor catches on the suction cups that are in the unit.

    • 8

Re-thread the motor cord so that it runs underneath the arch of the unit and slides into the "cord channel" along the back of the unit and underneath the reservoir. Run the cord through the back of the bowl and snap the cord into the cord notch to hold it in place.

Put the reservoir back on top of the bowl and plug the machine into the wall outlet.
