Having a Warranty
Prior to beginning, make sure you have a valid warranty.
Consults with the radio fence manufacturer to find out if your warranty has expired and your options when it comes to replacement and repair.
Determine the best option. You may want the company to replace the radio fence if the warranty allows for this option. In most cases, the company will send a repair tech out to correct the problem, which frees you from having to reinstall the fence.
No Warranty
Verify that you have a fence break. Perform a quick test before doing anything. You can perform the test by taking a small bit of wire and placing each end into a separate transmitter jack. If the error indicator disappears, it means that a break is somewhere within your radio fence.
Utilize a RF choke to help you find the breaks within the radio fence. A RF choke is a device that you place in front of the radio transmitter's outlets, which completes the circuit and allows the transmitter to emit a frequency. You must remove the radio fence wires from the transmitter outlets. Wrap each wire around the RF choke lends. If you place the RF chokes ends into the transmitter jacks it will send a frequency, even though it is broken.
Locate the radio frequency of your radio dog fence. You can find the frequency in paperwork that came with your radio-fence system. If you are unable to find a frequency, you could utilize a portable AM radio and search until you find the right frequencies. The proper frequency will give off a tapping or beeping sound similar to Morse code.
Travel along the entire radio fence. By utilizing the AM radio, walk around the radio fence to make sure there are no other breaks within the fence. In addition, you want to make sure the correct frequency is registering to the fence components and that the fence is not giving a weak signal.
Move along the entire fence with the AM radio. Mark any locations where you do not receive a signal with a stick.
When repairing, slowly dig around the radio fence. Try hard not to uproot the underground wiring. You might have to go back and bury any exposed line within the areas where you think the radio fence has a break.
Focus your attention on the radio fences transmitters in your repair process. If necessary, remove the RF choke and place the radio fence wires back into the transmitter jacks. You want to connect the two ends with a piece of wire. Twist each broken wire end and link the new wire. Cover the wire connection with a waterproof wire connector.
Check again in the areas where the radio fence was not working to see if the fence is now functioning properly. If the transmitter indicator alerts you that there is no fence break, you have resolved the problem.
How to Repair a Radio Fence
If you are a dog owner, having a radio fence can keep your dog from running away. In addition, a radio fence does not impede your view or cost thousands of dollars in construction like a traditional dog fence. Yet, radio fences have their drawbacks, and often break down, leaving gaps that can let your dog get out of the yard. It can be difficult to locate the break and repair the problem. If your radio fence is under warranty, allow the manufacturer to fix or even replace your existing fence. However, if there is no warranty, you will have to repair your fence yourself.
