Creating and Placing Flyers
Use a word processing program to create a flier advertising your puppies. Be sure to include a picture of the puppies; a description of their breed, age, sex and shot records; and contact information including phone numbers and email addresses.
Add details to your flier to make it stand out. Include a border design, color photo, bold print title and different colored fonts to catch a passerby's eye. The more people who stop to view your flier, the more likely you are to find homes for your puppies.
Place your fliers on telephone poles around your neighborhood, securing them in place with tape or a staple gun. Ask permission to place your flier on community bulletin boards, which can usually be found in coffee shops, shopping centers and community centers. Officer Hale recommends contacting consignment shops that donate to local animal shelters and asking to display your flier there because most of the clientele will be animal lovers, who may be looking for a new addition to their family.
Placing Classified Ads
Write a short ad to place in local newspapers and on websites. Include the breed, age and number of puppies available along with a contact phone number. This ad should be shorter than your flier description because most free classified ads have a low word limit.
Call your local paper or look online at their website. Many papers will allow you to advertise for free if you are giving the puppies away.
Search for free advertising sites on the Web. Enter "Free Puppy Advertising" and your town name into the search box of your favorite search engine. Many sites offer free advertisements. Select from the list brought up by the search engine and follow the directions provided by the website.
Post pictures of your puppies and a description of them on any social networking sites you are a member of. Change your status updates frequently, stating your need to find a home for the dogs, so that your friends will see it. Officer Hale says that most animals are placed in homes through word of mouth and that taking advantage of the Internet is a great way to let people know you have animals in need of homes.
