Adoption Process
Request information from the breeders/sellers of the puppy you purchased. They should be able to tell you that the parents are registered with AKC and have papers for you to fill out and send in for your new puppy as well. Be cautious if the seller does not have papers to give you as it may be a red flag that your dog is not properly bred.
Have the breeders sign the form immediately if possible or at least acquire their name and address to put on the registration form as well as add your pertinent information and signatures as the new owners.
Get relevant information from your breeder when you get your dog. The breeder should give you information regarding the sex of your dog, color and any markings, whelping date and date of transfer (purchase date).
Fill in your own information regarding the name of your dog along with the required registration fees.
Go to AKC.org if you would like to fill the application out online. When the application is received and processed, which takes about three weeks, you will get a Registration Certificate sent to you.
Fill another application sent to the UKC if you wish to have your American Stafford Terrier registered there. To be dual registered, UKC registered dogs must first be registered with AKC. Their site has several forms that can be filled out on line as well, requiring the same information as the AKC. In fact, they are very helpful in assisting you in the registration process and will answer all your questions. To dual register your dog is a choice, not a requirement but does have its benefits with the support, education and training provided by both AKC and UKC.
