The Best Way to Remove Dog Urine From Carpet

Having a dog can provide years of companionship, family fun, and love. However, accidents happen, and dogs are often the culprits. Stain removal processes are the most effective when the stain is fresh.
  1. Home Remedy

    • According to the Carpet Buyers Handbook, a simple home remedy may remove dog urine stains from carpets. Blot or extract as much liquid from the carpet as possible, then apply a mixture of 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1/2 cup lukewarm water. Blot the liquid again, and dry the area quickly.

    Second Chance Home Remedy

    • If the vinegar remedy is ineffective, the experts from The Carpet Buyers Handbook recommend applying a solution of 1/4 teaspoon dish-washing liquid, and 1 cup of water to the stain. Then apply a second round of the vinegar solution. Allow this to stand for 15 minutes, then blot it dry quickly.

    Commercial Product

    • The Carpet Buyers Handbook recommends the commercial product Odosolv/Fabrisan/Odaclean for pet stains, including urine. Under tests, this product removed pet urine stains, as well as the odor and fluorescence--the glow urine gives off under a black light--associated with them.
