Things You'll Need
- Electric fence kit
- Spade shovel
- Concrete saw
- Concrete sealant
- Chalk string
Instructions
Plan where you will have the boundaries of the fenced-in area. You can include driveways and sidewalks in the boundary. Use a chalk string to make the boundary line.
Choose where you will have the transmitter. It can be placed in a house or in a garage, but not outside in the elements. It does need an electrical outlet box to supply electricity to the transmitter. Install the transmitter box by screwing on the wall. Do not plug into the outlet box.
Use the spade shovel to dig a trench 3 inches deep along the chalk line. If you need to place the wire over concrete, use a concrete saw to make a 2-inch trench in the cement.
Place the electric wire in the trench. Hook up each end (the start end and finish end) of the wire into the transmitter box, placing it in a location where you can reach it with an electrical cord. Plug the unit into the electrical source. Test the transmitter and collar to make sure you don’t have any breaks in the wire. (The test button is used for this test, and not the dog.) After the test is done, unplug the unit.
Fill in the trenches with dirt ,and pack down lightly. For the concrete, use a concrete sealant over the wire to protect it from the elements. The sealant should be flush with the top of the concrete.
Plug in the unit, and place flags around the boundary.
