Instructions

    • 1

Pay attention to the places your pet spends the most time. These are the areas where you are most likely to find fleas and their eggs.

    • 2

Treat your pet for fleas. You can do this with a flea collar, a bath with a flea-killing shampoo or flea killers that you can purchase from your vet. A flea comb will also help you to remove fleas from your pet's body.

    • 3

Vacuum your home thoroughly. You should also vacuum the upholstery and get into places that you wouldn't normally think about, such as underneath the couch. Pay special attention to cracks and crevices.

    • 4

Wash your pet's bedding--and anything else you can--in hot water. Items that can't be washed in hot water may need to be thrown away.

    • 5

Steam clean your carpets. The hot water will kill flea eggs.

    • 6

Rid your outside of fleas too. If there is a location outside where your pet spends a lot of time, like a dog house, this area is likely infested with fleas, too. Vacuum and clean the area with hot water. Mowing your lawn regularly can prevent fleas from growing in the lawn.

Repeat these steps at least once a week to keep fleas at bay.
