Things You'll Need
- Professional locks
- Light with a motion sensor
- Electronic doggy door
Instructions
Lock your gates. If a burglar sees your dog playing in the backyard and your gate isn't locked, he can let the dog out. Then he can easily enter your home through the doggy door. Professional locks may cost a few extra dollars, but they can save you from a potential nightmare if a crook gets into your house.
Install a sensor over your doggy door that causes a light to come on whenever there is movement. A burglar will get alarmed when he tries to go through the doggy door and a light comes on. He may even think someone in the house is up and turning on the light, causing him to flee.
Replace your doggy door with an electronic doggy door. These doors only open when a sensor from your dog's collar unlocks it. That means if a burglar doesn't have your dog's collar, he won't be able to get the doggy door open to enter your house.
