Things You'll Need
- Damp cloth
- Enzymatic cleanser
- Trisodium phosphate (optional)
- Broom
- Dog shampoo (optional)
- Hair dryer (optional)
- UV blacklight (optional)
Instructions
Bend down and sniff the area with the odor or search for urine stains with a UV blacklight after dark. The UV blacklight will show urine-saturated areas as phosphorescent yellow or white patches. If urine is pooled in the area, wipe it away with a damp cloth. Discard any solids such as feces.
Saturate soft items such as fabric and upholstery with enzymatic cleanser. Let the cleanser soak in, then air-dry the area. Thorough drying may take up to 72 hours.
Wash hard surface areas such as concrete driveways or brick patios with a solution of trisodium phosphate (TSP) according to package directions and allow the area to air-dry for 24 hours, or until bone-dry. Sweep away any TSP dust with a broom and saturate the area with enzymatic cleanser. Allow the cleanser to pool over the affected area and air-dry for up to 48 hours.
Wash your dog with dog shampoo and allow him to air-dry, or dry his fur with a cool blow-dryer. This will remove urine odor from your pet.
