How to Complain About Dogs Barking

It can be incredibly annoying to hear a neighbor's dog incessantly barking all day and night. It can also be difficult to know how to properly navigate the situation without offending your neighbor. Although it's uncomfortable, it's important to confront the situation so you have peace. Try to come from a calm place when you talk to your neighbor about his or her dog so you don't ruin a relationship with that person.

Make sure you are completely calm when you confront your neighbor. It's never a good idea to talk to them when the dog has just woken you up at 3:00 a.m. Try to call the neighbor to schedule a sit-down so you don't drop by at an inopportune time.

Bring a peace offering with you. Some dog treats as well as cookies for the neighbor show that there are no bad feelings and that you want to help come up with a solution to the problem.

    • 3

Offer solutions to the problem if your neighbor seems confused on how to stop the dog from barking. Tell him or her about collars that spray water onto dogs when they bark, or suggest a doggy door, so the dog isn't outside all day and night disturbing the neighbors.

Allow a reasonable amount of time for your neighbor to make improvements before complaining again. Training a dog takes time, and if your neighbor is truly trying to make changes, your second attempt at complaining could frustrate the neighbor.
