Things You'll Need
- Doggie door with slat and lock
- Motion sensor lighting
- Infrared doggie door (optional)
Instructions
Buy and install a doggie door that has a sliding, locking slat. Opt for the in-wall doggie doors instead of the insert doggie doors that are used with sliding glass doors, as they are easily kicked in by a burglar.
Lock your doggie door at night to prevent burglars from entering through it while you are asleep.
Keep your backyard gate locked. Easy access to your backyard should be prohibited.
Purchase and install motion sensor lighting over your doggie door. This often deters burglars, as the light detects motion near the door and spotlights them.
Consider purchasing an infrared doggie door. They open only for the pet, or pets, wearing corresponding infrared tags on a collar. This prohibits entry from strange dogs and burglars.
