Measuring For Size
Using the measuring tape, measure your dog, while standing, from the tip of it's nose to the base of the tail. Add an extra 3 inches to that measurement.
Take a second measurement from the top of the dog's head down to it's paws. Add 3 inches on to this measurement.
You now have two measurements. This is the minimum length and width the bed should be in order for your dog to be able to stretch out.
Determine how many pillow shams will be needed by laying the shams down next to each other until the combined size is equal to or slightly greater then the measurements taken of your dog.
Making Single Sham Bed
Take a pillow sham and insert a solid foam pillow through the back pocket opening.
Arrange the pillow inside of the sham so the fabric stretches flat and the corners are filled.
Measure the length of the edge of the pocket and cut a piece of self adhesive hook and loop tape to that size.
Pull the paper backing off one side of the adhesive hook and loop tape and press firmly against the inside edge of the pocket opening.
Remove the paper backing off the remaining side of the adhesive hook and loop tape and press the top flap of the pocket opening down firmly onto the adhesive. You have created a self-fastening closure for your bed.
Flip the pillow and sham over and it's ready to use.
Making A Two-Sham Bed
Place the shams' two top sides together and hand or machine sew down one side as close to the edge as you can. When done, you should have a larger square or rectangle with two individual pillow pockets.
Place a pillow into each sham pocket and adjust till evenly distributed.
Repeat steps 3, 4, 5 and 6 under single-sham pillow to finish.
