Instructions
Schedule your Pekepoo puppy for an appointment with your veterinarian. Your vet will give your puppy a complete physical and make sure he is free of any parasites and will administer vaccinations to prevent illnesses. Both Poodles and Pekingese are prone to hereditary conditions so having your puppy examined is important for overall health.
Set up your puppy's crate in a low-traffic, quiet space in your home. Your puppy will learn to associate his crate with his own space and relax and spend time sleeping in there. Make sure to place clean bedding in the crate along with a few toys to keep your puppy occupied while in the crate.
Fit your puppy with a collar as soon as you get him home so he gets used to wearing it. It is important that you attach identification tags with your dog's name and your contact information to the collar in case your puppy gets lost. Attach a leash to the collar and follow your puppy around so he becomes accustomed to the feel of the leash.
Place your puppy's food and water dishes in an area that is easy to clean, such as the kitchen or bathroom. Set a consistent feeding schedule for your Pekepoo and feed him good-quality food. Your puppy will have to potty after a meal, so feeding him at the same time every day will make housebreaking easier and help avoid accidents.
Designate a quiet area of your yard as a potty spot and take your puppy out after meals and upon waking. Give your puppy a command such as "potty" and stand quietly until he goes. As soon as he is finished, reward him with a small treat to reinforce that using the potty spot is a positive behavior. Pekepoos are intelligent little dogs and will quickly learn where to potty.
Take your puppy on short trips with you to expose him to new people and places. Pet stores and dog parks allow your puppy to interact with strangers and teaches him not to be afraid of new situations. Offer your Pekepoo puppy a treat when he calmly takes in each new situation.
